And the winner of the “Name Me” strain contest for the up-to-now unnamed marijuana flower is…Citrus Funk.

We received nearly 450 entries of different name suggestions from patients and customers through all of the Native Roots marijuana dispensaries across Colorado.  Five finalist suggested names were chosen from the entries and presented to the entire Native Fam for a vote. Citrus Funk was the winner by far and entered the winner’s circle as the new name for our marijuana flower Name Me strain contest.

Strain Description

Our head grower from our production facility described the strain as across between Orange Velvet and Jack the Ripper. This marijuana flower produces a very strong aroma of fresh-cut oranges. Consumers of this strain have described an uplifting, mood elevated, high.

For those of you familiar with the new cannabis industry direction of terpene profiles; this strain has a terpene profile including, but not limited to, Myrcene and Caryophyllene. For those of you not yet familiar with this way of describing strains, it focuses on the effects of consumption rather than the structure of the plant that has been known by Indica, Sativa and Hybrid. This is the subject for a future blog post and a good deal of education so keep your eyes out for new information from Native Roots as we delve further into these new classifications.

However, those particular terpenes do frequently have a consistently pleasing citrus-like smell that can indicate it is a marijuana flower strain that would suggest a mellow and more sedate experience.

Naming Competition

The five entrants that suggested the name to be voted upon were anything but sedate when they got a private tour of the Native Roots grow and production facility.  They were especially excited to see the growth of the very plant they were helping to name.

The Citrus Funk marijuana strain will be returning to stores with its new name this week so keep an eye out for this tasty marijuana flower.
